Director of Sales
Homewood Suites by Hilton North Houston Spring
BASIC PURPOSE:
Plan, manage, and execute the overall sales and marketing of the hotel to achieve optimal occupancy and use, maximizing revenue and meeting/exceeding hotel profit and objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Manage sales staff in the department in order to attract, retain and motivate the employees; hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, discipline and terminate, as appropriate.
2. Manage the operations of the department in a manner consistent with LODGIC HOSPITALITY’s policies and ensure all procedures are properly implemented.
3. Ensure hotel complies with all Brand and Franchise company policies and procedures.
4. Prepare, analyze and review forecasts, statements and reports to determine if the hotels’ plans and programs are producing the optimal amount of revenue, modify as needed.
5. Develop and continually enhance relationships with corporate, business, travel industry, community organizations, professional associations, media, current and potential clients to maintain and increase awareness of the hotel and our market share.
6. Survey, review and analyze competition, market trends, customer needs and comments in order to develop new plans and programs and determine the potency of current plans and programs.
7. Develop, recommend, implement and manage the department’s annual budget and the advertising, public relations, marketing and sales plans and programs for the hotel to maximize rate, occupancy and food & beverage opportunities thus ensuring the hotel meets/exceeds management and owner revenue/profit goals and expectations.
8. Train all members of the hotel staff on how to recognize and capitalize on all sales opportunities to increase hotel occupancy and revenue.
9. Answer calls, respond to electronic communication, and assist guests with questions, changes
and special requests as needed. Ensure all leads, inquiries, and calls are returned within four business hours and requests are communicated to appropriate departments.
10. Daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/ or annual completion of reports, files, and traces according to standards and requirements of LODGIC HOSPITALITY and Brand.
11. Maintain filing system according to LODGIC HOSPITALITY/Brand SOP for Corporate Negotiated Rates, Local Negotiated Rates, and Groups. File contracts and correspondence daily.
12. Perform all other requested duties and functions by General Manager or Lodgic Hospitality.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned. Participate in task force and committees as required.
2. Conduct property tours.
3. Inventory sales collateral.
4. Participate in the hotel’s Quality Program.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Education: Four year college degree or equivalent education/experience.
Experience: Five years within the hotel sales discipline. Department head (ie.- Director of Group Sales) position for at least two years.
Skills and Abilities: Requires advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the sales/marketing/hospitality profession. This includes experience and knowledge required for:
The management of people, complex problems and efficient sales activities.
Make decisions within the standards of the position which can impact more than one department.
Ability to follow general policies and procedures and apply them to a varieties situation.
Requires studying, analyzing and interpreting complex activities or information in order to improve new practices or develop new approaches.
Must possess highly developed communication skills to frequently negotiate, convince, sell and influence other personnel, hotel guest(s) and/or clients.
No. of employees supervised: One to three employees.
Travel required: Local travel required on a weekly basis. National travel may be required a minimum of four to five times a year based on need or market demand.
Hours Required: Forty to fifty hours over a five day period.
