Vice President / General Manager

Graham Media Group is currently looking for Vice President and General Manager of WDIV / Detroit Media Hub.

VP / GM will report to the President / CEO of the entire WDIV Local 4 Media Hub, including NBC affiliates in Detroit, as well as digital subchannels and all related websites (ClickonDetroit.com), OTT offerings and applications.

Located in the 15th largest market in the United States, the station is just below 1.9 million television stations and operates state-leading news-related websites and mobile sites.

Qualifications and priority areas:

News and programming

• Excellent understanding and success with diverse news staff.
• Experience in developing powerful and successful newscasts from a viewer / user and cost perspective.
• Knowledge and ability to negotiate anchor / talent contracts and syndicate programming contracts.
• Lead contact with NBC regarding affiliate relationships.

Sale of TV and digital media

Ability to lead a station sales management team, including but not limited to Nielsen and comscore evaluation, inventory management and pricing, marketing, collaboration with national agencies, and a complete understanding of the overall relationship with clients. ..

Engineering / IT

• Experience with capital budgets, long-term capital forecasts, and overall station facility needs.
• An overall understanding of physical plant issues, coverage equipment, and general industry trends.

Creative service

• Experience in station branding, marketing, social media strategies, and execution on all platforms.
• An overall understanding of local / network programming promotion plans and campaigns, as well as production and external media budgets.

• Experience in developing, reviewing, and understanding monthly operational results, operational budgets, and forecasts (monthly and three-year forecasts) for stations.
• The ability to present the station’s budget and related financial information to the GMG Corporate in a systematic and thorough manner.

• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills required for a proven experience as an empathic and positive individual.
• Good written and verbal communication skills are required.

experience:

  • Successful candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in the television broadcasting industry and 2-4 years of management experience (which can be done at the same time).
