Vice-President/General Manager
Graham Media Group is currently seeking a Vice President & General Manager for its WDIV/Detroit media hub.
The VP/GM will report to the President/CEO and is responsible for the entire WDIV Local 4 media hub, which includes the NBC affiliate in Detroit, as well as the digital subchannels and all related websites (ClickonDetroit.com), OTT offerings and applications.
The station is located in the 15th largest U.S. Market, reaching just under 1.9m TV homes and operates the state’s leading News-related web and mobile sites.
The successful candidate must be a dynamic leader of people with a strong work ethic and the highest standards of integrity.
Qualifications and Areas of Focus:
News and Programming
• Excellent understanding and success working with a diverse news staff.
• Experience developing strong, successful newscasts, from a viewer/user and cost standpoint.
• Knowledge and ability to negotiate anchor/talent contracts and syndicated programming contracts.
• Lead contact with NBC for affiliate relations.
Television and Digital Media Sales
Ability to lead the station’s sales management team, including but not limited to a thorough understanding of Nielsen and Comscore ratings, Sales inventory management and pricing, marketing, working with the National Rep firm and overall client relations.
Engineering/IT
• Experience with capital budgets, long-term capital forecasts and overall station facility needs.
• Overall understanding of physical plant issues, news gathering equipment and general industry trends.
Creative Services
• Experience in branding, marketing and social media strategy for the station and its execution on all platforms.
• Overall understanding of promotional plans and campaigns for local/network programming in addition to production and outside media budgets.
Business
• Experience in developing, reviewing, and understanding the station monthly operating results, Operating Budgets and Forecasts (Monthly and 3-year projections).
• Ability to present the station budget and related financial information to GMG Corporate in an organized and thorough manner.
Station Personnel
• The station has approximately ~189 employees.
• Proven leadership and interpersonal skills required with demonstrated experience as an empathetic, forward-looking individual.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
Community
• Ability to work closely with a vibrant and diverse local community and special interest groups to understand how the station can best serve their needs.
• Community outreach experience is essential.
College degree in related field strongly preferred.
Prior General Manager experience required.
Overall – must have an unwavering passion for local television and digital media.

Qualifications:
• Candidates should have extensive experience in television and digital sales and, preferably, sales management.
• Candidates should have a high Digital I.Q.
• Candidates should have expert knowledge of research and ratings metrics and Wide Orbit experience a plus.
• Computer skills are essential.
• Candidates should be extremely flexible in the face of an extraordinarily dynamic work environment.

Engineering Supervisor, Broadcast Technology Manager
WDIV Local 4, the NBC affiliate television station in Detroit, is looking for a full time Broadcast Technology Manager to join our Engineering Department.
WDIV, owned by Graham Media Group, has the most watched newscast at 4PM, 5PM, 6PM and 11PM in the Detroit market (DMA #15).
WDIV’s ClickOnDetroit.com is the number one website for news and weather in metro Detroit.
WDIV has been awarded the Michigan Association of Broadcasters “2020 Station of the Year”, a title held for the last 7 years.
Experience:
- A successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in the television broadcast industry with a preferred 2-4 years of management experience (can be concurrent).
- Must be proficient with the following technologies: RF transmission (microwave, satellite & ATSC 1.0/3.0), broadcast automation systems, video encoding/transcoding systems, audio/video formats, sync signals, closed captioning systems/requirements, Windows/Linux/OSX operating systems, audio/video codecs, video over IP and other technologies (OTT, IPTV, PTP, SMPTE 2110, DANTE, AES67).
Responsibility Requirements:
- Manage a team of Broadcast/Maintenance Technicians & Broadcast IT Engineers.
- Effectively delegate tasks/projects to team members and insure they are completed on time and within spec.
- Excellent history of customer service, project management and strategic planning.
- Outstanding troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Install & maintain production/newsroom systems, such as iNews & Sony ELC.
- Ability to design technical drawings using AutoCAD or similar software.
- Strong communication skills.
- Be part of a team that provides 24×7/365 on-call support.
- This may entail remote or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters.
- This includes, but is not limited to equipment and power failures, loss of contracted services, storms or severe weather and schedule conflicts.
- Overtime may be required in emergency situations or to meet deadlines.
Preferred:
- Advanced proficiency in IT networking & infrastructure.
- Degree in Broadcast, Computer or Electrical Engineering (or equivalent field of study).
- SBE Certification or related Military training a plus.
